Travel Love: Granada | Carolyn Ann Photography

Over the summer, I had the amazing experience of driving across Spain and then attending my best friend’s Spanish wedding.  We started in Madrid and ended in Barcelona, but I fell head over heels for Granada.  Its an amazing mix of Spanish va-va-voom with the charms of its former Moorish rule.  I had a blast snagging some of these shots on film, but unfortunately with the jumble of travel and the processor not keeping my films separate, I don’t know what I shot on 😦  Enjoy!

We stayed at a sweet little inn, though the parking there was not! From there, we were able to walk nearly everywhere, including to a main square where everyone was lounging, laughing, and dodging pigeons.  There I found this gorgeous fountain.

We stayed at Pension Suecia.  I highly recommend it, there’s a lovely roof-top terrace and the owners gave us popsicles one night- food wins over my heart!

View of Granada

A breathtaking view of Albayzín, the old Arabic quarters of Granada.  This shot was taken from Alcazaba (fortress) part of Alhambra, a palace/fortress perched above the city.  We went to Alhambra on a whim because its usually sold out weeks in advance, but we lucked out and got tickets in! Without a doubt, one of the gems on our trip!

Alhambra is filled with glorious courtyards and gardens.

Here is the most ornate part of Alhambra, Palacios Nazaries, which housed Moorish rulers and Spanish Kings starting in the 10th century.  Its an absolutely fascinating building (well compound really!).
